SIT SPA, GREEN HEATING IS ALREADY HERE: “WE ARE READY FOR BIOMETHANE”

The world leader in components for boilers and related systems has already developed products that are bio-ready and biomethane-compatible. Hydrogen testing begins.

Padua, January 30, 2020 – SIT Spa’s products are already bio-ready or compatible with alternative and green gases like biomethane, in line with the European Union’s New Green Deal objective to decarbonise the economy and cut polluting emissions by at least 50-55% by 2030.
The Italian Stock Exchange listed multinational is a jewel in the “intelligent heating” sector and produces, in part through its subsidiary MeteRSit, safe, innovative and high-tech control systems that guarantee energy efficiency and minimise environmental impact.
SIT’s development centre, located at its headquarters on Viale dell’Industria in Padua, is a model of 100% Italian research excellence. It is here that the company’s engineers, years ahead of the market and its competitors, have already developed products which make use of alternative gas sources and were intentionally designed to be compatible with a green energy future. Biomethane, in particular, is already widely used, and can be distributed through pre-existing natural gas distribution networks. It is therefore the obvious choice in the search for sustainability and environmental protection.
“Greenhouse gas emissions from Biomethane are 75%-200% lower than those from fossil fuels. What is missing today is simple, clear and ready-to-use information for the end consumer. Our collective mindset is still tied to natural gas and electricity, but biomethane is already a reality,” stresses Federico De’ Stefani, Chairman and CEO of SIT. Dispatchable and green, biomethane can be used in practically every aspect of everyday life both at home and at work, and is already a key concern for governmental agendas across the globe. The French government, for example, has predicted that by 2030 a 10% share of biomethane will be injected into the nation’s natural gas network, as is already the case in Denmark. “At SIT we are ahead of the market – continues De’ Stefani – making our components compatible with biomethane, and are working together with qualified partners to experiment with hydrogen, another gas with great potential. With Bosch, for example, we are developing a control valve for hydrogen boilers” said De’ Stefani, adding: “it is against this background that SIT won an international UK Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy tender to develop a hydrogen meter as part of the national Hy4Heat project”.
